Makeup May: Week 4 Results

And the results are in for the last week of Makeup May!

The Body Shop Tea Tree BB Cream

Okay, I have a confession.  I didn't use this once.  It got lost in the drawer, and I was so addicted to the Revlon foundation I tested out a few weeks ago that it... got completely overlooked.  I will be trying to use this over the summer, but unfortunately I don't have anything to say today.

Verdict: I suck

Maybelline FIT Me Blush

This was disappointing.  There's something wrong with it, no matter how hard I try I can't get product out of 2/3 of the pan.  What I can get is unpigmented and chalky, and doesn't blend that well.

Verdict: Toss.

Revlon Shadowlinks

These weren't quite as bad as I remembered.  I built up the silver in the photo and it turned out okay.  The gold is a little yellow for me, but since it's unique to my collection, I'll be keeping it around.

Verdict: Keep

Annabelle Eyeshadows

These were meh.  I found them chalky, but the purple in the crease in the photo looked really nice.  I honestly can't decide if I like these, I don't hate them... But I'm still on the fence.

Verdict: Keep?

Rimmel Apocalips

These were not good.  The nude especially so really thin and went on patchy.  They didn't dry down or set in any way, and they bled like a fiend.  They also don't dry, they just stay kind of tacky which is irritating.

Verdict: Toss

And that's the end of Makeup May!  I hope you liked it, I definitely reduced my makeup collection (although I still have lots to go through!)  I'll see you soon with more posts!

Makeup May: Week 4 Products

We're in the home stretch everyone!

I could not get a decent photo of this to save my life.
This week for base, I'll be putting The Body Shop's Tea Tree BB Cream to the test.  I wore this a lot last summer, and I think I remember it giving me a cakey complexion, but I'll give it a shot first before I pass final judgement.

Then I have the Maybelline Fit Me blush in Deep Rose.  I have just barely hit pan on this, so I liked it enough to use that much.  Hopefully I have a winner here.

For eyes I have two shadowlinks from Revlon, in Silver and Gold.  The Revlon eyeshadows have never impressed me (I'm looking at you, week 2!), but I'll let these ones try again.

Then I have two Annabelle eyeshadows.  These do not have names unfortunately... But they will give  me an idea of what Annabelle eyeshadows are like, so I have kept them in here.

Then I have two Rimmel Apocalips, one in Big Bang and the other in Phenomenon.  I am giving these one chance to impress me before they're gone for good, I kind of regret buying them but so many people love them that I want to try one more time to make them work.

Alright, last week of this.  Hopefully I have some good results and end this series on a good note!

Makeup May: Week 3 Results

The only word to describe the product testing this week is ROLLER COASTER!

That eye look is my new love, expect a tutorial in the future!
Covergirl Clean Foundation

This was an freaking disaster.

I knew the colour would be slightly off, but I figured it wouldn't be too bad, it looked very similar in shade to the foundation I tested last week.

This was ORANGE.  Horribly, horribly orange.  And it oxidized even more orange. I only wore it once, it was honestly so bad.  Plus, it STINKS!  It smells like chemical pine-scented cleaner.  And it didn't fade, I could smell it as I was taking off my makeup.

Rimmel 2 in 1 Highlighting Concealer

This was a fail for a whole other reason.  I got one use out of it and then it was empty!

The test I did get out of it was underwhelming.  It's very salmon in tone, but it didn't really cover my dark circles, and it certainly didn't highlight.  I just found it didn't do anything.  And it's really hard to tell if the tube is empty, it still looked half full when I realized there wasn't any more product to squeeze out.

Verdict: Won't be repurchasing.

GOSH Rainforest Quad

This was GREAT!  I had the lowest expectations for this, but when I was testing it out I decided to be adventurous.  In the photo of a look I did this week, I put the green all over the lid, and used the copper in the crease to blend it, and as a transition shade.  Then, I wet a square flat shading brush and used it with the blue to create a wing, and took the blue under the eye.  It's not a look everyone will like, but I added bronzed skin (I actually used a bronzer guys!) and a nude lip and HOLY MOLEY I loved how it turned out.  This will be getting a lot more use from now on!

Verdict: Big fat KEEP!

Rimmel Retro Glam Mascara

I've gotta say it, the brush on this is unnecessarily large.  I don't like huge brushes, I find them hard to control and I usually end up getting mascara all over my face.

This didn't do a lot for my lashes, it did thicken but that's really about it.  I found it clumpy, and my lashes didn't look individual, just one big slab of black. This also took forever to set.

One other thing worth mentioning is that this will run like a boss if you cry.  I find most mascaras smear a bit, but waterproof formulas are still pretty durable.  This one though, runs down your face and smears everywhere in seconds.  I discovered this while watching a very emotional episode of Full House...

Verdict: Toss.

Yet another week, this one completely underwhelming.  Hopefully next week's products are better, come back tomorrow to see what I'll be testing out!

Sometimes it all gets to be a bit too much, and you need to get out/away from it all.

Makeup May: Week 3 Products

On to Week 3 of Makeup May!

This week we have... yet another foundation!  I think I have a problem... This week it's the Covergirl Clean foundation for normal skin.  This has a... unique scent, the same as the powder I tested last week.  Maybe when you wear it throughout the day it doesn't smell as strongly.  We'll see I guess!

Then I have a concealer.  This is the Rimmel Match Perfection concealer.  I haven't touched this in so long, I really need to use it.  I think I liked it when I did use it, the tube is probably half empty, but it may have been almost a year since I picked this up last.

For eyes, I have a GOSH eyeshadow quad in Rainforest.  This was given to me, I didn't buy it, but I haven't used it once since I got it which is shameful.  Hopefully it's good!

Then I have the Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam mascara.  I kept this at my boyfriend's house and din't use it much, so now that he's moved and it's back in my possession, I'll give it another chance.

Stay tuned for the results on Sunday, are you liking these so far? Let me know please!

Makeup May: Week 2 Results

Hello everyone!

This week's products were a sharp contrast of hits and misses, so we better just get to it!

Don`t be fooled, the eyeshadow looked terrible within an hour.

Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer

Okay, so this wasn't as bad as I expected, but I do see why I didn't use it much.

I find the formula really dry, even though it's a liquid.  I'm not sure how else to explain it.  The colour is alright, but it's only meant for under the eyes so it is very yellow in tone.  That being said, it did conceal my dark circles and there was a little bit of a brightening effect.

I'm going to keep this, and make an effort to use it more just to use it up.  So many people really like this, I really want to like it too.

Verdict: Keep.

MAC Prolongwear Concealer and Face and Body Foundation Samples

These little samples pack a lot of product into them!

I really liked Face and Body, but not enough to buy it.  It's a very sheer coverage, and looks super natural, which is great.  I personally just like a little bit more coverage.

The concealer was also nice, but I found it was more brightening, less concealing, and it definitely settled into fine lines.

Verdict: Used up, but won't be purchasing.

Covergirl Professional Loose Powder

This wasn't bad!  I really enjoyed using it this week.

I think the only reason I like my regular Extra Virgin Minerals powder better is because it doesn't smell.  This has a very chemical, almost pine-y smell.  It does fade (or I just got used to it as I wore it throughout the day, I'm not sure).  The powder itself is very fine, and gives a flawless, matte finish to the skin.  This one does have more and bigger holes to dispense product though, just be warned.

Verdict: Keep!

Revlon Cream Eyeshadow Quad

This was terrible.

I used every single primer I have, ones that have never failed me, and it creased.

It creased by itself.

It creased if I set it with a powder.

It didn't blend, it has awful pigmentation, and it wore off my eyelids in patches.  It looked awful within an hour or two, and I wanted to scrub it off and start again.

Verdict: TOSS!

Joe Fresh Sheer Lip Crayon

To end on a brighter note, I liked these!  They had a very creamy texture, nice pigmentation, and weren't drying.  I liked that they fade out to a stain, instead of just fading away completely, because the colour then lasts longer and you don't have to touch up too frequently.

Verdict: Keep.

Well, it was a slightly disappointing week, but we move on to new products to test tomorrow and hopefully have better luck!  I just didn't find anything that WOW-ed me this week unfortunately.

Makeup May: Week 2 Products

We are back into things with Week 2 of Makeup May!

This week's products are:

From Maybelline, I have the Age Rewind concealer.  I bought this because a YouTuber recommended it, used it once, and never gave it a fair shot.  It just sat in my makeup drawer untouched.  Let's give it another chance.

I have two little tester pots in here, both of MAC products.  One is the Pro Longwear concealer and the other is the Face and Body foundation.  I need to just use these up, and I never remember to.  Hey, I might use them and decide they're worth buying!

This post is very face-heavy, but my last face product is the Covergirl Professional loose powder.  When I bought this, I wasn't as into loose powders.  Now, I use my Body Shop loose powder every day, so I might like this one too.

On to the eye product, I have a Revlon cream eyeshadow quad in Not Just Nudes.  I don't usually like cream shadows, which is probably why this ended up in the back of the drawer, buried under a million things, but I want to give it one more chance.

And finally, a lip product.  These are the same, both are the Joe Fresh Sheer Lip Crayons in the shade Berry.  I don't know why I have two of these, I really don't, but I can't remember if they were any good or not, so let's find out!

Alright, I'll see you Sunday with the results!

Makeup May: Week 1 Results

Hello everyone!

A week has passed and it's time to review the products I've been testing out.

Look using this week's products.

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation

This was surprisingly a winner for me!  At first, I thought it was going to be way too dark, but it blended into my skin quite nicely and the colour difference was minute.  I really liked how this blended, and that it really did look quite natural on my face.  This was pretty sheer, so if you like a lot of coverage this wouldn't be for you, but for me I like a sheer coverage, especially in summer.  This also wore pretty well.  I have a feeling this will be a much-used product over the summer months.

Verdict: Keep.

Physician's Formula Nude Wear Powder

Unfortunately this was a bit of a miss for me.  I really liked it in the winter, because it added glow to my skin.  Now, I'm finding it too glowy for my skin.  This is also nicer when it's just swept across bare skin, not over a foundation.

My biggest issue with this is that there are two squares that wore down quickly, and the other two are barely wearing down at all.  I think there's something wrong with it, and it isn't usable anymore.

Verdict: Toss.

Joe Fresh Modern Smokey Eye Quad

I am really glad I gave this another chance, it pleasantly surprised me.  The top two shades are very shimmery and the bottom are much less so.  I'm not a fan of the pink shimmer, but that's just my colour preference.  I love using the silver shimmer with the navy on the outer corner and in the crease.

While I find these to be a little powdery, they work for me if I use a good eyelid primer and a light hand.  I found they blended okay, and they have a medium pigmentation that can be built up.  For something I was expecting to dislike, I liked it a lot!

Verdict: Keep.

Maybelline Great Lash Clear Formula

This was... not so successful.  I tried using this to set me brows, and I found that it didn't keep my brow hairs in place, and it actually left white residue in my brows as well.  Not a good look.  I like the Maybelline Brow Drama a million times more than I like this.

Verdict: Toss.

Maybelline Electro BabyLips

I love the Maybelline Baby Lips so much, but this one was a miss for me.  I didn't mind the colour, it would look really nice with simple winged liner and glowing skin, but I found the formulation to be not as nourishing as the other Baby Lips.  It also settled in dry patches and looked uneven.  However, I did like the colour and it wasn't too bad...

Verdict: Not Sure Yet.

Rimmel Colour Rush

This was actually a really nice product!  The colour isn't great for me, but layering it with other stuff worked really nicely and even by itself I can make it work.  It did kind of settle in dry patches on the lips, but a little lip exfoliation would solve that.  This didn't bleed, had decent lasting power, and it smells GREAT!

Verdict: Keep.

That's all for Week 1 of Makeup May.  Come back tomorrow to see what products I'll be testing out next week!

Makeup May: Week 1 Products

Let's kick off Makeup May!

Week 1's products are a diverse collection.  First off, we have the Revlon Nearly Naked foundation.  This is in shade 150 Nude, which might be a little too dark/yellow for me.

To set that, I have a very battered Physician's Formula Nude Wear powder.  This is almost used up, but for some reason I abandoned it without finishing it (as I do with a lot of nearly-done products...)

I have in here a Joe Fresh eyeshadow quad in Modern Smoky Eye.  I've given this a fair few chances, and I think I know what the results will be on this, but I'm going to give it one final chance to impress me.

Next up is the Maybelline Great Lash clear formula.  I use this on my brows.  Since my brows are a little tamer, I can probably ease off on the full routine and just set them with this.  We'll see!

Then I have two lip products.  The first is the Maybelline Baby Lips in 95 Strike a Rose.  This is very bright, but relatively sheer, so this could be a winner...

My second lip product is the Rimmel Colour Rush Balm in 100 Gimme A Cuddle.  This smells AMAZING!  However, not sure if the shade will flatter me...

Alright, let's do this!  I'm really excited to start using these products and seeing if there are any forgotten gems in there!
