Welcome to B.E.D.A. 2015!

It's back!

I announced in my video yesterday that B.E.D.A. is back for summer 2015.

In case you weren't around last year for this, B.E.D.A. stands for Blogging Every Day in August.  It's such a challenge to produce that much content, and last year I slipped near the 20th day, but I'm better prepared this year (I've been prepping since at least May!)

Every day there will be a new blog post going up for you.  There's a lot of varied content happening, some beauty, some lifestyle, some fashion, and since Thursdays are my uploading day I'll post every Thursday with whatever new video I have put up.

I hope you're looking forward to this too, and please remember to leave a comment on posts you like throughout the month!  The first posts will be going up tomorrow!

Review: Essence Lip Liner

Hey everyone!

I've heard so many people talking about the Essence lip liners.  At first I wasn't sure about the hype, but when Casey Holmes started talking about them, I knew they had to be good (girl's got standards!)

Anyway, I purchased one and have swatched them all and I thought I'd do a full review for you today!

Shade: 07 Cute Pink

Regular stick formula that you sharpen.  I like that the colour of the paint on the pencil corresponds with the colour of the liner.

These are dirt cheap, I believe they're $1.99 each, and that's a bargain no matter how you look at it!

In the store, I swatched all of these on my hand, and I noticed one major thing.  No matter what colour you swatch, they all have the same payoff, same texture, and same pigmentation.  These are incredibly creamy and opaque, with great pigmentation.  They also blend really nicely.

On the lips, these are incredibly easy to apply around the lip line and blend out the create a softer line.  I used it to fill in my lip completely and I would honestly leave it as it is.  It looks like a really nice matte lip.

This doesn't cling to dry patches, lasts pretty well (especially for a lip liner) and is just in general an amazing product.

Left: Lip liner Applied                                                            Right: Lip liner blended out

Final Thoughts

Final thoughts?  This lives up to the hype, 100%.  It ticks every box of what a lip liner should be and then some.  Add that to the fact that it's so cheap and WE HAVE A WINNER!  I would definitely recommend it to you!

(Toe) Nails of the Week: Coral Me Wild

This week's nail polish colour is...

Limited Edition!  Oops...

I painted my toes Coral Me Wild, a limited edition shade from Revlon that's super bright and pretty, perfect for summer.  Awesome with a tan and some strappy sandals.

I actually own another shade that's very similar called Cajun Shrimp from O.P.I.  These aren't completely identical, but they're VERY close.  Cajun Shrimp is more orange, while Coral Me Wild is more pink.

If you can get these, GO!  I normally avoid coral anything, but this nail polish is really doing it for me lately!

Nails of the Week: Bare It All

I have a new nail polish obsession!

This is the most perfect nude shade from (yet again) the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polishes.  It isn't a straight pink, there are definitely slight brown undertones, and it looks AMAZING with a tan!  I feel like this will also be a favourite in the winter.

These retail for $2.50 so seriously, get your hands on this shade!

Review: LUSH Sex Bomb Bath Bomb

Hello everyone!

This is one of the most talked-about bath bombs that LUSH makes, but until recently I hadn't used one.  However, I received one as a gift and figured that I could use it and review it for you today!

The LUSH website says this has the scent of jasmine, sage, and ylang ylang, with soya milk to soften your skin.  This retails for $6.65 in Canada.

This really does smell amazing.  I dropped it in the bath and it fizzed away happily, immediately filling my bathroom with an amazing scent.

I loved that this turned my water a slightly milky pink colour, it felt very girly and relaxing, perfect for a pamper evening.  This didn't dry out my skin either.  As promised, it really did leave my skin feeling soft, but not sticky like some bath products that contain essential oils.  All in all, I felt very pampered when I stepped out of the tub.

There are two downsides to this product that I really want to mention.

First, it leave horrible residue in the tub.  There was a ring of purple that I had to SCRUB big-time to remove.  Not something I like to do after I've had a relaxing bath.

I also don't like the little flower thing that is embedded in this.  As it fizzes away, it releases the petals and they float around, but they're all slimy and gross and that isn't very relaxing either.  It's a little off-putting actually.

All in all, I'm not much of a bath bomb person but I would for sure repurchase this one, despite the drawbacks.  It's the perfect addition to a relaxing pamper evening!

Mini Musing: Realizations

Hello everyone.

Through the course of this post, I ask you to bear with me.

It is currently 2:31 in the morning.  I have just gotten home from the bar, where I went with two of my girls from work.  It's been a long few days, and we all needed to have some fun and dance away the weekend's frustrations. Such is working in the food business, your weekends are taken away from you.

But I digress.

I never go out to bars.  A hot, crowded, loud, smelly room is not my idea of a good time.  In fact, it used to be the spark for the biggest panic attacks I ever experienced.  But I went to my first nightclub sometime in the past 6 months, and after escaping relatively unscathed I've occasionally ventured out since.

On Sundays, the grossest bar in Waterloo gives free cover to all food service industry workers, thus I found myself there tonight.  I had a drink, danced with my girls, and was then approached by a guy and asked to dance.

Now, I have a very straight moral compass, but I'm also incredibly terrified of hurting anyone's feelings.  So I said yes.  And it was fine.  There were no happenings that my boyfriend would have disapproved of, and my friend K danced with my dance partner's friend. All was fine.

Except it wasn't.

I wasn't necessarily overridden with guilt, but I did feel awful.  And it wasn't because I thought what I was doing was wrong.

It was because I realized the setting and people were.

In that hot, sweaty, sticky bar I realized something very important about myself.

I don't want to go out to bars and clubs.

I don't want to have a few drinks and dance with strangers, no matter how nice they may be.

I want to stay at home, and eat junk food, and curl up on the couch or in bed with my laptop and Netflix.

I want to cuddle with my boyfriend, or dance with him to a slow song on the radio, not some club remix with too my synthesizer and bass.

I came home tonight deeply sad.  I had a good time.  I had fun.  But I didn't want to be there.  There were so many other things I would have enjoyed so much more, and even if I couldn't have them (the boyfriend is currently 4 hours away from me without access to a car) there were things that could have at least come close.

But going to a bar was not one of them.

(If you're curious, pizza and Smartfood popcorn would have been the next closest option.)

I think it's important that we all realize what we do and do not like to do.  What does and does not make us happy.  While I am capable of enjoying myself at the bar, it's similar to being sat in a chair at the dentist and having your teeth cleaned.  You don't necessarily like it, but you don't HATE it either.

Anyway, it's 2:41 now.  It's time for me to go to bed.  This just felt like something I wanted to share with you.

O.O.T.D.: Unexpected Flannel

Hey everyone!

This outfit I wore the other day is pretty much my favourite thing right now.

Dress: H&M
Men's Flannel Shirt: Eddie Bauer

This dress is not the most flattering on me because of the waistline (and the fact that I was 5 pounds lighter when I bought it!), but pairing it with a flannel tied at the point where my waist is smallest makes me look cinched in and curvy.  Rolling up the sleeves keeps me cool, and looks cute too. The knee brace is optional ;)

The makeup is a smokey eye using Maybelline's The Smokes palette, I have a video tutorial HERE if you want to see the whole look and all the products I used!

I didn't put on shoes for the picture, but I paired this with black strappy gladiator sandals from Payless that I bought last summer.

Review: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Polishes

Hello everyone!

In my recent Nails Of The Week posts, I have featured the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear nail polishes a few times, plus I talked about them a lot last summer.  I figure it's only fair to do a full review, because these are definitely not the best nail polishes I have ever used, but I do have a solid reason for loving them.

These retail for about $2.50 depending on where you buy them, so they are definitely cheap polishes.  Most of the shades only take one to two coats of polish to get it perfectly opaque, and they dry slightly shiny, but not as shiny as a gel.  I recommend using a top coat to improve the longevity, but without a top coat they last about 3 days on the nails before they start to chip noticeably.  The drying time for these is about 5 minutes per coat until it sets, and 15 minutes for it to be fully dry.

So why do I like these polishes?  They aren't top of the line, and they are pretty average in their performance.  But I'm not a nail polish person, I only wear it sporadically.  It's not something I want to invest in, because I will never go through a whole bottle (not even close!)  I also use my hands a lot when I work, so I don't need a polish that claims to last (because it won't!) I only need something that looks nice for a few days, and then is easy to take off.

That's why these are perfect.  They have average longevity, and are inexpensive.  Plus, the shade range is AMAZING there is a colour in there for everyone.

I hope this review was helpful, I really do rate these polishes because they fit my lifestyle and what I like so well.  I suggest you give one a try, even if you don't like it you aren't losing out on $14 like if you bought an Essie polish!

A Very Pink Haul

Hey everyone!

I went to Shopper's Drugmart the other day, and bought a few things.  When I left, I realized that EVERYTHING I bought was pink! Even the box of Kleenex! To add to that, I was wearing a bright pink t-shirt.  Clearly I have a problem!

Anyway, I thought that was a funny anecdote to share, and I'll just get on with the haul now...

Because everyone RAVES about the Essence lipliners, I picked one up in 07 Cute Pink.  In swatching this, I found it to be really creamy and smooth already.  I wear this colour a lot, and it will go with a ton of different lipsticks, so hopefully it live up to the hype!

I also got two more Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear nail polishes, which were on sale.  I got a lovely nude, 105 Bare It All, and 405 Coral Reef.  I'm a big fan of these polishes, even if they aren't the greatest ones in the world.  That they were on sale makes them even better!

My final beauty purchase was a Life Brand  detoxifying face mask in lotus flower & ginseng.  I like these face and hair masks a lot, I've talked about them before.  This one nourishes and protects, perfect for summer.

So that's it for my mini beauty haul!  Of course, I did get a pink box of Kleenex too ;)

Anyways, I'll see you soon!
