Music Obsessions: January 2016

Hello everyone!

I haven't talked about my favourite music for a very long time!  I live with headphones in my ears, so music is a huge part of my life and who I am (in case you don't know, I am also a music teacher).  So it's long overdue for a "Music Obsessions" post!

1) Death of a Bachelor- Panic! At The Disco

Brenden Panic! At The Disco released their newest album, Death of a Bachelor, on January 15th and I'm OBSESSED!  I'm a huge Panic! fan, so I pre-ordered this as soon as I could and listened to all of the pre-releases 50 times (that's not even an exaggeration).  But the whole album in a total love for me and two big thumbs up to Panic! for this album.

2) Hello- Adele

Yup.  I went there.

Adele is a goddess.  I was GUTTED when I couldn't get tickets to any of her Toronto shows.  But this album just continues to prove how amazing she is.  Funnily enough, I actually don't like "Hello" that much (probably just because it's so over played), but in the entire album there isn't a single song I would skip.

3) Are Bands a Genre- 8tracks Playlist

I've talked about 8tracks playlists a lot in the past, but I hadn't been loving any new ones until recently.  This one is fabulous.  It's a great blend of mainstream and more indie bands and the music is perfect for everyday listening.  Link HERE.

And that's it for me current music obsessions!  I will link my other music-related posts below so you can see things I have loved in the past (most of which I still love now!0

Review: The Maybelline Fit Me Stick Foundation

Hello everyone!

I'm back with another review today on Maybelline's stick foundation.  I haven't heard a ton about this, but it definitely intrigues me!

I wear the shade 115 Ivory, and I bought the Shine Free + Balance formula.  To be honest, I had no idea they made different formulas, but this one seems like it would fit my combo skin well regardless.

Price
The price for this is pretty good.  I got mine for $8 at Walmart.  So this is a pretty inexpensive foundation.

Packaging
The packaging on this is... plastic.  But I like that it's black, it makes it feel less cheap.  In addition, the lid secures well, which means you don't have to worry about it falling off in your bag and making a mess.

Performance
I have applied this with a damp sponge and with a brush.

With a sponge, this foundation blends out to a light coverage that can be built up to medium.  With a brush, it XXX.  I love how easy this foundation is to layer.  It doesn't have the best coverage, but it does look quite natural.

I personally don't set my whole face when I use this.  I find that it dries down to be fairly matte and powder can make it look cakey.  I do set my forehead, chin, and nose area where I get oily or where my foundation tends to slip or break up.

Here's a photo of my finished makeup:

As you can see, some larger blemishes show through (I didn't conceal them) but not redness or discolouration.  It looks nice and natural, not cakey or fake.

Throughout the day, this wore really well.  I didn't have to blot or re-powder, and it didn't crease or break up.

Overall, I'm really impressed with this foundation!  I think it might be my new favourite...!  I would definitely recommend this, especially if you have combo skin like myself.

Product Graveyard #3

Hello everyone!

*sigh*
It's time to talk about more products that disappointed me.  I wish I never had products that were disappointing, but I guess that's life.

1) Maybelline Super Stay 10 Hour Stain Glosses

These are just not good.  The wand is terrible, and impossible to apply the product with.  The formula is thin and watery, doesn't soak in, and doesn't dry well.  And it most definitely doesn't stay for 10 hours.  It wear off quickly and in weird patches, and you can't just reapply over the top.  You have to take it all off and redo it.  Super disappointed with these.

2) Hard Candy Eyes The Limit Eye Shadow Primer

I did an initial review of this, and gave it great reviews, but over time I've really fallen out with it.

The formula isn't as good as the e.l.f. eye shadow primer, which means I'm automatically not going to buy it again.  The biggest problem I have with this though is that the formula separates into two substances that feel like clay and oil, and it's impossible to mix them back together.  I really wanted to love this, and I'm so disappointed that over time it just... didn't live up to my hopes.

3)  Balea Glow Sunless Tan Body Lotion

This is a symbolic product for me.  I am NEVER going to fake tan again.  I always end up orange and streaky, and my hands get orange no matter how vigorously I wash them after application.  This product wasn't particularly awful, I've actually used worse, but it didn't work well.  I just looked, again, orange and streaky.  So this is going, and I'm never buying fake tanning products again.

4) H&M Velvet Lip Cream

This isn't a surprise if you read my review.  This was patchy, drying, and all around horrible.  I love the H&M eye shadows and nail polishes, but this was just a terrible product.

5) Covergirl Professional Loose Powder

This was awful.  It didn't set my foundation, just sat on top of it, and didn't mattify at all.  It also smelled AWFUL!  Plus, the lid was flimsy and didn't stay on well, it was a mess.  This should've been tossed a long time ago.

And there we have it, another 5 products that seriously disappointed.  Leave your disappointing products in the comments below!

A Winter O.O.T.D.

Hello everyone!

It has been oddly warm (for Canada) lately, and I've got a nice outfit of the day post showing what I wore the other day when it was barely -5!

Coat: Marc Andrews (The Bay)
Sweater: Guess
Bag: Winners
Jeans: Maurice's
Boots: H&M

How great is this bag?!

Lipstick: Maybelline's Crazy for Coffee

I love the hood in this coat!  The faux fur keeps my face warm when it is cold and it's SO soft!

I'll see you soon with another post!

2016 Resolutions

Hello everyone!

I have a few little "resolutions" if you will that I'd like to do in 2016.  I did this last year and I actually completed a good portion of them.  This year, I'm going to make a few more personal resolutions and I'm going to complete my blogging resolution I didn't do in 2015!

Personal

1) Lose 20 pounds
Okay, stay with me here.

I've never been skinny, but I've definitely been healthier than I am now.  In the last year, I have put on a solid 30 pounds and haven't grown vertically at all.  And I wasn't thin to begin with (and I never will be, and I DON'T CARE!)

However.  The weight I am at makes me unhappy.  I don't like wearing 90% of the clothes I own or used to like, because they aren't flattering.  I've gotten rid of a lot of clothing that didn't fit anymore because I had gained weight, and I finally decided that if I was going to be so deeply unhappy, I would make it my goal to lose a little weight and be comfortable in my own skin again.

To do this, see resolution number 2...

2) Eat better!
I eat out a lot.  And that's a huge reason why I have been gaining weight so steadily.  I am going to aim to only eat out meals once per month (as in friend outings and dates) and to cook the rest of the time.  I will not be skipping meals, just putting more veggies and protein into my diet (and less carbs!)

3) Less caffeine.  Le crie.
Okay, I admit it, I have a problem.  And I think my coffee intake especially is really dragging me down.  I'm going to cut down to 1 coffee per week in January, and one caffeinated tea per day.  That's a considerable decrease, and I hope to further cut back throughout the year.

So those are my personal goals, let's get to blogging goals!

Blogging/Vlogging

1) Revamp my blog
I said I was going to do this last year, and I didn't.  I really think my blog needs a makeover this year, and I think I'll take July off to do it, before going into B.E.D.A. (yes, I will be doing it again in 2016!)

2) Put out 4 videos per month, and 12 blog posts
This is a lot of work, and I'm pretty sure it won't be sustainable, but I'm going to try!  That works out to 1 video and 3 posts per week, and it just comes down to finding enough content.  If you have any ideas or requests, leave them below!

3) Improve my images
I really want to up my photography game in 2016.  Sometimes my pictures look so blah compared to other bloggers, I really want to step it up!

So those are my 3 personal and 3 blogging/vlogging resolutions for 2016.  I hope you enjoyed this, leave your resolutions in the comments below!

My Most Popular Posts and Videos of 2015

Hello everyone!

Here's a little round up of my most popular posts and videos from the last year, with links to everything in case you missed them!

January
My review of the Maybelline Brow Drama (I still love this!) (Link)

February
This amazing chicken stew recipe for the slow cooker.  I made this a couple days ago! (Link)

Two tutorials!

A sultry Valentine's Day look (LINK)

And a T-Swift inspired look that is also very reminiscent of Adele (LINK)

And I discovered my favourite lipstick, MAC's Ruby Woo (LINK)

I also started my channel with THIS introduction video! Time flies!

March
In March I reviewed a book I still recommend to everyone, The Nightengale (LINK)

I also did my first video tutorial, where I showed you my everyday makeup routine (LINK)

April
April was a good month.  My blog hits went up quite a bit in April!

I blogged about my favourite coffees and teas, ad that went over so well I continued to talk about them all year long! (LINK)

This is also the month I reviewed the Va-Va-Voom cleansing system from Olay, which is still a huge favourite of mine! (LINK)

I also did my first Empty Products video on by channel in April of this year. (LINK)

May
In May, I did a series called Makeup May where I tested products from my makeup collection and did reviews on them all month long.  It really helped purge my makeup collection, and I might do it again in 2016.

As a departure from makeup, I took some photos at the park and blogged about that too. Click for tadpoles! (LINK)

I also tried my hand at vlogging and had some... interesting experiences with geese. (LINK)

I also did what might have been my first hair-related tutorial EVER. (LINK)

June
June started off with a trip to the cottage, so of course I blogged about it. (LINK)

I joined the ranks of people raging about YouTubers acting inappropriately, and it's one of my most popular posts to date, which I find unfortunate. (LINK)

I started doing Nails Of The Week posts this month too, starting with a Hot Pink polish. (LINK)

I also posted one of my favourite OOTDs, my very first maxi dress! (LINK)

I reviewed the much-hyped L'Oreal La Palettes on my channel, and got frustrated with idiot drivers and sirens.  I should really post the bloopers reel from that... (LINK)

I also surprised my boyfriend for his birthday and caught it on video!  The vlog technically went up in July, but it happened in June! (LINK)

July
In July I had a video request that I filmed, and it has SO many views! I'm still pretty shocked by how popular it got. (LINK)

I also blogged about realizing that bars aren't for me.  And that's okay. (LINK)

I also discovered the best nude nail polish to date this month, and of course did a Nail Of The Week post about it. (LINK)

August
In August, I did BEDA again, with a post or video every single day without fail!  It was a huge accomplishment, and choosing my favourite days was difficult for this post.

I also did an awesome Cottage-Approved makeup tutorial on my channel in August and I still wear that look all the time. (LINK)

September
I kicked off September with a Vlog from the 5SOS concert.  It was such an amazing experience, even if it did make me feel old! (LINK)

I also taught students how to save money on textbooks (LINK) and I posted a Transformation Tuesday in honour of my 20th birthday (LINK).

October
In October I posted two MASSIVE hauls, one Drugstore and one Luxury.  I've been loving the products I picked up so much over the past few months.

I also discovered H&M Makeup and did an overview of their collection HERE if you haven't seen it.  Then I reviewed their EYESHADOWS and their LIP CREAM.

I also went away for a few days and shared my camping adventure snaps with you (LINK).

November
In November, I fell in love with a pair of awesome booties from H&M, and I can tell you now that I'm still wearing them, even with snow on the ground! (LINK)

I did my makeup in 5 minutes using only a handful of products, proof that you don't always have to go full-on with your makeup! (Although it is fun to do that as well!) (LINK)

I also fell SO in love with the H&M nail polishes, you can see my review HERE.

December
In December, I made my first foray into e.l.f. cosmetics, and I found some really awesome products.  You can see my haul video HERE.

My boyfriend and I went to a fancy ball and I shared some outfit of the day posts from it (LINK).

He also decided to rise to the challenge and attempt to do my makeup.  The results were pretty... interesting (LINK), but I got my revenge (LINK).

And those are my most popular (and my personal favourite) posts and videos from 2015!  I posted a lot last year, and I hope to blog and vlog even more in 2016!

Here are all my 2015 monthly favourites as well, in case you're interested:
November
December

Love you all lots and lots <3
